Creating your ways2work plan

The Towers Watson Action Model

Working in partnership with Business in the Community’s Business Action on Health Campaign, global professional services firm Towers Watson created the Healthy Workplaces Action Pack, a step-by-step guide to help companies develop and maintain a health and wellbeing programme. The Action Pack was published as part of the campaign launch in October 2007.

This Toolkit complements the Action Pack by providing the employer with more in-depth guidance for developing sustainable and reduced travel initiatives as an integral part of their health and wellbeing programme. It is therefore intended to be used in conjunction with the Action Pack and not as a standalone resource. Copies of the Action Pack and other health management resources and services can be obtained from Towers Watson.

The 12-step model that underpins the Action Plan provides a framework within which companies can identify the actual health needs of their workforce and the risks to their business.

The Towers Watson model has been tested with leading UK companies engaged by the Business Action on Health campaign in the production of five previous employer Toolkits:

This model can also be applied to the development of an organisational ‘better ways2work and travel plan’. Stakeholders are engaged in a partnership to reduce the adverse environmental and health impacts, and associated costs, of employee commuting and business travel, creating a better, more balanced, organisation as a result.

The plan that emerges from this process addresses the organisation’s travel-related impacts in the most appropriate, targeted and efficient way possible through a cohesive and structured programme which is based on an annual calendar cycle. More detail on these steps is available in the Towers Watson Healthy Workplace Action Pack.
