Low emissions vehicles

The next generation of low carbon vehicles are poised to come off the production line. A number of vehicle manufacturers will launch all electric vehicles over the coming 12 months and Government expects that the subsidy will drive sales of over 8,500 vehicles in 2011.

There have been a huge improvements in vehicle efficiency over the last few years. Many vehicles now have emissions of under 110gCO2/km. The fuel efficiency of vehicles can be found at http://www.vcacarfueldata.org.uk/information/how-to-use-the-data-tables.asp

Manufacturers are committed to improving the fuel efficiency of petrol and diesel engines. As cars become more efficient and cleaner, the cost of driving reduces. Fleet managers and drivers can help to support and drive change by buying low carbon cars.

To encourage the adoption of electric vehicles, charging points are beginning to appear across UK towns and cities. Plugged in places, the government initiative to support the electric vehicle charging, has awarded grants in Milton Keynes, London and the North East. In these regions 11,000 vehicle recharging points will be installed.

The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership and Energy Savings Trust are both excellent resources for information on low emissions vehicles and alternative fuels.
