Changing behaviour

Challenge for Change and CTC have produced a very useful paper called ‘Get more people cycling – how can we achieve behaviour change?’ which is another good resource for employers wishing to encourage cycling.

The Workplace Cycle Challenge programme, which is run by Challenge for Change, aims to get more people cycling and has achieved the following in the UK:

  • 21,000 participants
  • 1,200 organisations participated
  • 1.1 million miles cycled and logged on the Challenge websites
  • 7,300 - 'non-cyclists' have given cycling a go again
  • 77% of 'non-cyclists' reported two weeks post Challenge that they intend to cycle more often after having participated in the Challenge
  • 35% of 'non-cyclists' reported three months post Challenge that they are now cycling once a week or more often
  • 17% of 'non-cyclists' reported three months post Challenge that they are now cycling to work each week
