Carbon-cutting road haulage service to be offered to eBay motor customers

Wednesday 10 November 2010

Customers of eBay Motors UK for the first time have access to an online transport marketplace that saves unnecessary road haulage miles at the same time as cutting delivery costs.

Shiply.com, which claims to have saved 15 million miles of road haulage since launching two years ago, has signed an exclusive agreement to become the vehicle transport partner of eBay Motors UK. The bidding service promises to cut delivery costs by up to 75 per cent, putting those looking to deliver goods by road in touch with courier and transport firms. By so doing, it has already cut the number of empty lorries on the road, slashing 15 million road haulage miles and 7.7 million kilograms of CO2 emissions, according to the company.

The deal will give customers of eBay.co.uk, the UK’s largest online marketplace, the option to use Shiply.com when delivering or purchasing a vehicle. Under the agreement, eBay Motors UK will work exclusively with shiply.com.

Shiply.com founder Robert Matthams described the deal "as a great business opportunity" for his firm.

"eBay.co.uk has approximately 18 million monthly unique visitors  and is the UK’s largest online marketplace. A vehicle is sold on the site every 30 seconds," he said.

Since its launch in 2008, Shiply.com has grown substantially and now has over 205,000 registered users and and has generated £36 million worth of business for over 18,000 registered delivery firms.
