New planning guidelines published
A new good practice guide has been published by the government for transport and planning professionals. The updated guide shows how to develop a high-quality, robust travel plan as part of planning application. Packed with case study evidence, the new guide is aimed at developers, consultants, local authority planners and travel plan officers.
With travel plans much more widespread and most local authorities requiring them as part of a planning application, the government has updated its guidance on the subject. “The Good Practice Guidelines: Delivering Travel Plans Through the Planning Process” has been published jointly by the Departments for Transport (DfT) and the Department of Communities and Local Government in light of the significant developments in both planning and transport in recent years in relation to sustainability. The guidelines help integrate sustainable travel into the planning process so that it can deliver travel plans and changes in travel behaviour that are effective, convenient and have longevity.
The guidelines will be valuable to those who work in either transport or planning who will find the detailed information, good practice and case studies helpful. The new publication and a summary are available on the DfT website: www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/sustainable/travelplans/tpp. Hard copies of the document are available free on request from CAPITA Fulfilment Services e-mail: dftinf@capita.co.uk Tel: 0300 123 1102
