Other sources of information relating to business travel

  • Online Self Booking Tool
    • Many businesses use an online self booking tool (SBT) alongside their TMC. A SBT allows travellers to access real time tickets and pricing through their chosen reservation service. An SBT, like a TMC, will charge a transaction fee.
  • Lease Car and Car Hire Provider
    • Lease car and car hire providers may provide a business with pool, company and short term hire vehicles. In addition to providing vehicles, they may also help businesses manage, maintain and track fleets. These additional services are provided independent suppliers too.
  • Expense Management System
    • Many businesses use expense management systems to streamline travel payment processes, improve visibility of travel costs and policy, and encourage compliance to policy and contracts. These systems are a good source of information relating to business travel.
  • Fuel Cards
    • A fuel card is like credit card, only it is used to purchase fuel and oil. Fuel cards are often used with company, pool and hire cars and are a good source of information regarding car use and miles driven.
  • Direct Supplier Relationships
    • If you purchase significant volumes of a particular type or travel, or use a certain route on a regular basis, you may be able to negotiate directly with a transport operator. Many large businesses negotiate with airlines and include “preferred supplier deals” as part of their TMC contract.
  • Hotel Booking Agent
    • A Hotel Booking Agent (HBA) acts like a TMC, but specialises in booking hotel rooms
