Healthy people make for a healthy business

"A growing number of companies are recognising that there is a robust business case for investing in workforce wellness, particularly during difficult economic times. We are now at a ‘tipping point’ on this issue as evidenced by additional research by Ipsos MORI commissioned by BITC (May 2010), which highlighted the sharp increase in FTSE 100 companies reporting on employee health and wellbeing from 68% (2007) to 85% (2009.) The research also demonstrated that FTSE 100 companies reporting quantitatively on employee wellness and engagement against Business in the Community’s (BITC’s) Workwell Model outperformed their peers on average Total Shareholder Return (TSR) by 10 percentage points in 2009.

ways2work has been created by businesses for businesses to help companies develop initiatives that support corporate and employee wellness. ways2work integrates the key elements of our WorkWell Model, developed by our Leadership Team and Practitioner Network, promoting an integrated, holistic and strategic approach to promoting and reporting on employee wellness.

By linking sustainable travel policies and flexible working practices with promotion of physical, psychological and societal health, companies can play an important role in promoting the wellness of their employees and the sustainability of their businesses and the communities where they operate.

Once your company has embarked on the journey to better employee wellness and engagement, we ask you to commit to public reporting using those indicators which are most relevant to your business. Please join us in working to achieve this goal. You can learn more about Business Action for Working Well and freely available resources at www.bitc.org.uk/health"
