  • To do so, Chess has formed a ‘Green team’ that is driving a number of green initiatives through the business

  • Chess held a ‘Green Day’ where employees travelled into work in an environmentally -friendly way and provided with information on environmental issues and fair-trade products
  • Chess introduced badges allowing free parking for those employees who car share
  • A "Bike to Work" scheme enables employees to purchase vastly discounted bicycles
  • The Green Team encourages reduced use of lighting and increased recycling through competitions with nights out for teams reducing their paper usage by a certain percentage per month
  • A green employee benefits scheme allows employees to spend loyalty points accrued through carbon-friendly work practices on carbon reducing initiatives such as planting trees at no cost to themselves
  • Chess has also arranged a local supply of food produce at discounted prices for employees to encourage local shopping

Results/benefits

  • By reducing lighting and paper usage, Chess estimates the company has reduced carbon usage by 2%* Virtually all office waste is recycled. As a result, recycling has increased by 100%
