Laundry Ladies

Organisational challenge/context

As a business offering a free delivery and collection service encompassing a wide variety of central areas and their surrounding localities, Laundry Ladies understand their contribution to the carbon emissions being released into the environment.

Intervention(s)

Laundry Ladies offer a free delivery and collection service which means that their clients never need to come to them. Their late opening hours are intended to include the needs of their domestic customers who typically will require the delivery and collection service during the evening. Therefore the company makes every effort to limit their travel and the travel of their customers, staff and suppliers.

Results/benefits

As a small business Laundry Ladies look at ways to reduce overheads. As the company is run from home it has grown by taking on staff that works from home. It benefits the company to watch how many miles they travel, and to restrict how far they are willing to travel as this keeps costs down. By avoiding rush-hour traffic wherever possible Laundry Ladies are not contributing to congestion, thus benefitting by ensuring good time keeping getting from one delivery to the next and by keeping costs down by not wasting fuel needlessly sitting in traffic. The business is easier to manage by having staff work from home and by using local companies and suppliers. The company only pays for insurance on one vehicle as the car used by the driver is owned and insured by her.
