LSI Architects

Organisational challenge/context

The company's staff travel plan is one of five strands of their strategy for achieving the environmental targets set annually in conjunction with their BSI-registered integrated management system.

Intervention(s)

From its simple beginnings as a schedule of weekdays on which staff elected not to use the office car-park, the plan has been supplemented with series of financially attractive initiatives to support staff in their use of alternative modes of transport – participation in two successive Cycle to Work schemes, a tax-efficient bus travel scheme, and a City Car Club scheme for occasional vehicle hire.

Results/benefits

The primary benefits of the travel plan to the company are in terms of productivity – through reduced congestion and therefore reduced stress (proven to cause illness and absenteeism), through the opportunity to work (or relax) while en route to one’s destination more safely afforded by the use of public transport, and through the enhanced morale stemming from improved health associated with walking or cycling to work.
